If you still haven’t updated to the latest tvOS, and still have 9.0.1, you are just so lucky with your decision to not update as you wouldn’t be able to get your Apple TV 4 jailbroken otherwise. There are no available jailbreaking methods for tvOS after 9.0.1.
By applying the Apple TV 9.0.1 jailbreak, you can do whatever you want on it. Buy TV shows and save those, install 3rd party apps, control it via other iDevices and more. You can do what you thought you cannot do with it.
Reminders:
1. This jailbreak is only for Apple TV 4 users having tvOS 9.0.1.
2. You should backup in case of any problems.
3. Make sure you have USB – C cable. You will use it for connecting to PC.
4. In your settings, have your Software Updates disabled.
How To Jailbreak Apple TV 4 9.0.1
On your TV, go to Settings. Scroll down until you see System, tap it. You will see ‘’Software Updates’’, select it then make sure to turn off the automatic update option. Then, plug in to PC by using USB – C cable.
Go to Apple Developer site and log in your Apple ID. Then agree to the legal agreements that will be shown, and so on. This will let your account have sideload privileges for later on-purpose.
Open Xcode preferences by clicking on it from the menu bar. Log in your apple ID, now with sideload privileges.
On the menu bar, navigate to File, then New, next is Project. You will create an app for your TV.
A window will pop up. On the left panel, click ‘’Application’’ under the ‘’tvOS’’ column then select ‘’Single View Application’’ and proceed.
Name your project ‘’Jailbreak’’. Your organization name could just be your own name and Organization Identifier as com.YOURNME, then proceed to create.
Click ‘’Product’’ from menu bar. Then, ‘’Destination’’ on the following drop down. Select ‘’Apple TV (OS version lower than development target)’’.
Choose 9.0.1 as your OS on the ‘’Deployment Target’’ dropdown. Then on the ‘’Team’’ dropdown, make sure you select your apple ID.
Click the ‘’Fix issue’’ button if there are any code signing problems.
Download Pangu for tvOS and iOS App Signer anywhere in your Mac where you can easily locate it.
Open iOS App Signer then look for the Pangu folder you extracted earlier. Go to Payload then select the file ‘’atvipa.app’’. For the signing certificate, choose your apple ID you registered a while ago. For the Provisioning Profile, choose the com.YOURNAME.appletv4jailbreak.
Click ‘’Start’’ button. It’s preferred that you save the .ipa file to Desktop for easy locating.Once done, go back to Xcode.
On the menu bar, go to Windows, then Devices. Under that panel, select your TV. You will a “+’’ sige under Installed Apps. Click it then choose the atvipa.ipa file you modified earlier.
Wait until it is finished installing.
When done, use your TV. You should now see Pangu on the list of apps. Open it. It will finally do the jailbreaking.
